Beyond the Classroom: Speaking Truth and Life into Kids

This compilation was published by the Muscogee Educational Excellence Foundation - a non-profit foundation based in Columbus, Georgia that aims to recognize and reward excellent teachers.  The book is a collection of columns written by Sheryl Green for the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer newspaper and was published as a gift for the Muscogee County School District's Teachers of the Year.  It recounts stories from the classroom that aim to inspire teachers and community members alike.  Readers leave each story with a warm heart and a good feeling about the work being done by our dedicated, passionate public school teachers.

Up Close and Personal with Reading: A Not-so-Scary Tool for Teaching for Understanding

Out of classroom desperation came the inspiration for a close reading tool that will help teachers TEACH kids how to think about reading.  Simple to use, the Close Reading Triangle explained in the book has been proven to be an effective, user-friendly tool in the classroom.  The benefits allow teachers to "see" how and what students are thinking as they read.  Then, they have a tangible, visible way to lead their students into critical thinking about reading.  The book explicitly outlines how the CRT works, offers ways to teach it to students, and gives examples of implementation.

"The Close Reading Triangle brings the deeper meaning of the text to life."
